The Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH)
- Course Name: The Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH)
- Duration: 2 days
- Technical Level: 4
Overview
This course is designed to break open the SDH frame and de-mystify the signals and standards, whilst retaining a real-world network perspective. All inputs to the SDH system are followed through to assembly of the SDH frame. Protection, Synchronisation, Network Management and Common Alarm signals are also detailed.
Course Objectives
- Describe the SDH frame.
- Understand the differences between SDH and SONET.
- Explain the concepts of Mapping, Path overhead, Pointer
- Processing and Multiplexing.
- Explain the integration of ATM and SDH.
- Describe network protection and synchronisation.
- Understand complex SDH networks.
Course Requirements
A basic understanding of mobile telecommunications would be an advantage, but is not essential.
