Main Highlight

The Mobile Internet is always likely to be hamstrung by bandwidth bottlenecks as even HSDPA is a relatively poor substitute to the ever-increasing throughput rates offered by copper, and especially fibre optic, fixed-line connections. It must also be borne in mind that peer-to-peer communication have always been, and are always likely to be, the primary business model for wireless carriers. Being an ISP should always be expected to be a secondary concern for them, with their network resources needing to be prioritised in favour of voice and messaging instead.

Topics covered include
  • Mobile Internet and Mobile Broadband End Users and Revenues - how this will grow over time in each region.
  • The development of Mobile Content - the transcoding of existing Internet content as well as the creation of mobile-specific content, via websites, widgets, web apps and application stores.
  • The development of end user device suitability for accessing remotely hosted content - hardware based competitive enablers, browsers and the standardisation of essential cross-device non-competitive enablers.
