Samsung mobile TV handsets

South Korean electronics manufacturer Samsung announced today, seven new handsets with mobile-TV functionality.

The range includes devices compatible with four different mobile TV broadcasting systems, specifically the Nokia-backed DVB-H standard, Qualcomm's MediaFLO, and both the terrestrial and satellite-delivered variants of DMB.

DMB service already exists in Korea and the manufacturer plans to launch the SGH-P900, a terrestrial DMB device intended for European markets, in time for the 2006 football World Cup in Germany. Plans already exist to broadcast mobile TV from the matches.

There is also a DVB-H device, the SGH-P910, and a variety of DMB devices for the home market. The SPH-B4100 is capable of receiving both T-DMB and S-DMB, conceivably at the same time as it can display two channels simultaneously.

Kitae Lee, president of Samsung's Telecommunications Network Business, commented: "Samsung continues to develop the premium mobile handsets that give consumers the ultimate multimedia experience and allow them to fully realise the power of mobile broadcasting."
